My name is Amy Robbins, and I am a digital artist. My journey into homesteading began when my spouse and I were married 11 years ago. Our first project involved collecting and saving seeds to experiment with growing our own crops. Once we had enough plants, my spouse constructed our first greenhouse. Soon after, we built our first chicken coop, and then selected our first trio of Road Island Red chicks - Dotty, Blondie, and Lil Derp. I quickly developed a fondness for raising chickens by hand and collecting their eggs. In 2018, tragedy struck when a bobcat wiped out our entire flock, forcing us to purchase eggs from the grocery store for the first time in 6 years. It was sobering to feel so disconnected from nature and routine in such a profound way. The simple act of gathering eggs from the chicken coop and greeting my girls each morning always brought joy to my day. I have always formed deep bonds with my flocks. Presently, I am caring for the largest flock I have ever managed singlehandedly, with 12 laying hens, 2 roosters, 5 laying ducks, and 2 guard geese recently added to the farm. The mission of Dreamcatcher Community Farm, which aims to bring people together to live sustainably, fills me with hope for a brighter future. A place where individuals can freely express themselves, showcase their creativity, and share their talents to support one another is truly a dream come true. Having a supportive community to rely on, offer aid, and learn from provides a newfound sense of purpose and belonging. I aspire to contribute to the preservation of our planet, rather than its destruction, leaving behind a better world for all living beings. While I may only speak for myself, this mission helps me feel less insignificant. I am humbly grateful to Rose, the founder of this wonderful organization, for extending the invitation to join the board.
